INLINE / PRIVACY

Privacy Policy

How InLine handles manuscripts, accounts, AI requests, and website records.

Effective and last updated: October 3, 2026

Stored on your device

Manuscripts and project materials stay local by default.

AI sends task context

Selected text or a full manuscript may be sent to the service you use.

Service records

Accounts, built-in AI usage, and website visits generate service records.

01Scope and contact

This policy covers the InLine desktop app, website, and InLine-operated account, update, and built-in AI relay services. InLine is provided by independent developer Yuan Yang. For privacy questions or requests, contact support@inlinewrite.com.

AI providers, plugins, literature search tools, and other third-party services you connect are also governed by their own privacy rules. This policy describes InLine’s processing and does not replace their policies.

02Manuscripts and local data

Manuscripts, comments, revisions, project materials, literature indexes, and app settings are stored on your device by default. Creating, opening, or editing a manuscript does not itself cause InLine to upload the entire project to its servers for cloud synchronization.

AI conversations, task records, and operational logs may be stored locally and may contain manuscript text, file paths, instructions, and model responses. The files an agent can access depend on the agent, plugins, and permissions you enable. Protect your device, backups, and account credentials.

Local storage does not mean every feature is offline. AI, online search, translation, and other connected features transmit relevant content to their respective services.

03Accounts and service records

When you register, sign in, or use account services, we process your email address, verification codes, password verification data, sign-in tokens, registration and sign-in times, membership level, operating system platform, and account activity dates. These support authentication, verification emails, entitlement management, and service usage measurement. Passwords are stored as salted hashes, not plain text.

Built-in InLine AI also processes a locally generated device identifier, device tokens, request times, feature and model names, input and output usage, credits consumed, duration, result status, and error types for authentication, usage accounting, security, and troubleshooting.

Website visits, account requests, update checks, and installer downloads generate server access logs that may include IP addresses, request paths, timestamps, browser or client details, referring pages, and response status.

04Built-in AI and your own agents

Built-in InLine AI

When you start a task, your instructions, conversation context, and task materials pass through the InLine relay to large language model providers. Responses return to the app. Materials may include selected text, full manuscripts, comments, literature excerpts, images, file names and paths, and tool results produced as the agent reads materials. The scope depends on the task and actual requests.

The current InLine relay stores authentication and usage records. It does not write AI request content or model responses to its relay database or access logs. Content still passes through server memory during forwarding. Retention and further processing by large language model providers are governed by the policies and terms applicable to the service you use.

Your own ChatGPT, Claude, or other agents

These agents use your own clients, accounts, and settings. Their model requests do not pass through InLine’s built-in AI relay. InLine provides context and tool access to the local agent you enable; that agent may read additional project materials and send content to its configured model service.

Third-party retention, model training, telemetry, and processing locations depend on the provider, account, and settings. See the OpenAI Privacy Policy and Anthropic Privacy Policy. We do not make a blanket no-training or zero-retention promise for these services.

Using overseas models or plugins may involve processing outside mainland China. Review the service’s processing locations and privacy settings before sending content. Confirm that you are authorized to provide research participant data, unpublished research, confidential documents, or other sensitive material, and remove unnecessary personal information where possible.

05Third-party services and support

InLine does not sell your personal information or manuscripts and does not currently use manuscripts or AI conversations to train its own models. Disclosures required by legal obligations are limited as applicable law requires.

We use Alibaba Cloud server hosting and email delivery services to operate the website, accounts, and AI relay, and to send verification emails. They process connection or email information as needed to provide those functions. See the Alibaba Cloud Privacy Policy.

Online literature search, translation, and other plugins may transmit queries, text, or task materials to their corresponding services. Third-party websites and social accounts you open have their own privacy rules.

When you contact us by email, we receive the contact information, message, and attachments you provide and use them to respond. Review and redact unnecessary sensitive content before sending logs, screenshots, or manuscripts.

06Managing local data

You manage local manuscripts and materials. Signing out or uninstalling the app may leave local data, agent histories, exported files, or backups. Use available deletion features or remove the corresponding local files. Manage third-party agent histories and settings with those services.

07Your choices and privacy rights

You can choose not to use AI or online plugins and continue using available local writing features. You can sign out of InLine, disable plugins, or adjust agent permissions in third-party clients.

To request access, a copy, correction, or deletion of personal information we process, account closure, withdrawal of consent, or to raise a privacy complaint, email support@inlinewrite.com with your request and associated account. Do not send passwords, verification codes, or complete sign-in tokens. We verify identity only as necessary and respond under applicable law, explaining any request we cannot fulfill.

Closing an InLine account does not delete manuscripts on your device or close third-party AI accounts. Contact the relevant provider about information it holds.

08Children and young users

InLine is intended for academic writing. Minors should use it with a guardian’s guidance. For users under 14, a guardian should contact the developer to establish personal information arrangements before account registration or use of online services. Contact the email above if you believe we have processed a child’s personal information without guardian consent.

09Policy updates

We update this page and its date as features and processing practices change. Material changes to purposes, information categories, recipients, or rights procedures will be communicated through the website or app as appropriate, with consent obtained where required by law. Publishing this policy does not replace any separately required consent.
